Smokey Bear Wearables & Collectibles

Smokey Bear's history begins with the creation of a fictional character in 1944 for the U.S. Forest Service's wildfire prevention campaign, famously saying, "Only you can prevent forest fires". In 1950, a real bear cub rescued from a fire in New Mexico was named Smokey, becoming the living symbol of the campaign and living at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C.. This living Smokey Bear remained a popular icon until his death in 1976, after which his remains were returned to his birthplace in Capitan, New Mexico.
